Wentworth Moling Services attended the above property to carry out a leak detection investigation in response to reported water damage in flats 2 and 4.
Visible Inspection:
On arrival, a visual inspection was carried out in the bathroom of Flat 6, which is located directly above the reported water damage in Flats 2 and 4. Photographs were taken of the damage in Flat 2. Flat 4 was not accessible at the time of the visit.
Pressure Test:
A pressure test was conducted on the main water supply in Flat 6 at the incoming mains pressure of 2.4 bar. The system showed a complete pressure drop within 2 minutes, confirming the presence of a leak on the mains.
Leak Identification:
Further inspection of the bathroom revealed a leak behind the mixer cover, where the cold water inlet to the shower mixer connects to the concealed pipework behind the tiled wall. The leak rate was estimated at approximately 1 litre every 10 minutes.
Repair:
Although the copper pipe was intact, it was found that the wall bracket securing the cold inlet had come loose behind the tile, causing the joint to weep. The mixer was removed, seals were replaced, and the mixer was reinstalled. The pipework was then tested with and without the mixer body. The final pressure test held steady over 20 minutes with no loss, confirming the repair was successful and no further leaks were present.
