We attended a property in Horsham to carry out a leak detection service.
Upon visual inspection, there were no visible signs of a water leak throughout the house.
We then conducted a flow meter test. There were three separate 20mm lines running from the water meter. One section was isolated and the water meter was turned back on. The meter stopped ticking, indicating a leak on the isolated line. The section believed to be leaking supplies the garden tap by the pool. A water meter reading of 16654 was recorded.
Tracer gas was used in an attempt to locate the leak. The gas was introduced into the pipework from the garden tap by the pool, and it was detected at a concentration of 0.10 – 0.25 percent by volume directly adjacent to the generator flue.
We then carried out a further test using an acoustic microphone in order to accurately pinpoint the location of the leak. The leak could be clearly heard next to the generator flue.
In conclusion, our leak detection identified the leak as being located next to the generator flue. The flue will need to be removed prior to excavation. It is likely that water has been seeping into the wall immediately adjacent to the affected area.
The leaking section was left capped off, as the leak was not causing a loss of pressure in the rest of the pipework within the property.
